Well, Women’s History is over but it has been a great time for Cyndee and “Mollie’s War” as Cyndee and Doug have crisscrossed the state telling Mollie’s story of her service in the WACs during WWII—and how Mollie’s generation laid\u00a0the groundwork for future generations of women in the military.\u00a0 We traveled\u00a0from Chillicothe near Peoria to Great Lakes in North Chicago and even to the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Milwaukee–and all points in between.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We met other women who served as WACs at the same time as Mollie.\u00a0\u00a0 One woman served in Europe and said\u00a0that it brought memories.\u00a0 Another woman talked about serving in the US during WWII.\u00a0 One gentleman brought the “New York Port of Embarkation” card showing that his aunt arrived in New York just one month before my mother returned from Europe.\u00a0 She also returned on the Queen Mary.\u00a0 \u00a0We even met a woman who served\u00a0bagels on Michigan Avenue during WWII!\u00a0 Several younger women, one Marine and one Sailor thanked my mother for what her generation did for them—they could be “all\u00a0they can be.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
