Happy New Year from Mollie’s War.\u00a0\u00a0 We had a wonderful\u00a02017 traveling across\u00a0the state of Illinois.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0We have\u00a0traveled from Antioch to Sandwich to Crete to Rock Island to Mount Vernon and all places in between. We\u2019ve seen parts of Illinois that we didn\u2019t know existed.\u00a0\u00a0 We truly have a beautiful state\u2014from the River Walk along the Mississippi in Rock Island to the working windmill in Fulton to the historical sites in Mount Vernon.\u00a0 For the first time\u00a0we traveled out of Illinois to Milwaukee and presented a program at the VA Medical Center in Milwaukee.<\/p>\n
We met such interesting people including a gentleman who was one of five brothers who served in WWII and everyone came home!\u00a0 Many women talked about female relatives–mothers and aunts–\u00a0who served in WWII and in fact woman talked about an aunt who served as\u00a0the head of the WACs in the 1960s.\u00a0 Another gentleman talked about serving during WWII on a aircraft carrier in the Pacific when he was 17\u00a0and how he aged to 90 in just 10 days.\u00a0\u00a0 But\u00a0he said\u00a0he would do it over again!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0A WWII Veteran who landed on Normandy in the first wave told his\u00a0first-hand account of the landing and driving a jeep.\u00a0One woman talked about growing up in Iowa, seeing the WACs as they drilled (at Fort Des Moines) and how\u00a0the WACs\u00a0would go to church in the neighborhood.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0There are just so many stories!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
